Quaking Grass

Briza maxima is a delightful, hardy annual grass seldom seen in gardens, which is rather strange, as it always stirs up loads of interest when in flower. Lots of dainty, biscuit-coloured heads dangle cheerfully in each breeze, creating fluidity and motion, an attribute all too often over-looked when choosing plants. At only 30cm tall, it is not hard to accommodate, but as it is very generous with its seedlings you may want to restrict it to one area, maybe where there is gravel as this sets it off very well. Then, when your friends stand drooling over it, you can notch up your brownie points by presenting them with their very own baby Briza!
